Travis Harrison did not get a chance to suit up for the Twins last season after waiting until mid-August to sign his first professional contract.

But after starting the year in extended spring training in 2012, the third baseman is starting to unleash his bat on the Rookie-level Appalachian League.

The 2011 first-rounder went 5-for-6 with a two-run homer and three runs scored as the Elizabethton Twins shellacked the Johnson City Cardinals, 12-0, on Monday.

The outing -- Harrison's seventh multi-hit performance of the year -- raised his average to .371 through 18 games.

Minnesota's No. 8 prospect smacked his third homer of the year off Bryan Martinez as the Twins sent 13 men to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning, and he hit a one-one single to left field and scored in the second.

The 19-year-old California native then slapped an opposite-field single with two outs in the third, pulled a base hit to left field in the fifth and singled and scored again in the seventh.

In the ninth, Harrison reached on shortstop Bruce Caldwell's throwing error.

Selected by Minnesota 50th overall in last year's Draft, Harrison hit .421 with a homer and four RBIs in his first 10 professional games, but he entered Monday's game batting just .192 with two extra-base hits in the first week of July.

On Monday, Elizabethton starter Hudson Boyd (2-3) scattered two hits while striking out five batters over six innings. Joshua Burris followed with two three-hit frames, and Kaleb Merck worked around a hit in a scoreless ninth.

Catcher Bo Altobelli and second baseman Jorge Polanco collected three hits apiece in the victory, while leadoff hitter Candido Pimentel and designated hitter Adam Walker each plated a pair of runs.

Johnson City's Martinez (1-2) allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on seven hits and walk over a third of an inning.
